about us

In 2010 a group of academics and photographers in Cyprus, who felt the need to reflect on the role of photography in shaping history, a sense of place and identity, organized the 1st International Conference of Photography and Theory titled ‘Cypriot Photography in Context: Time, Place and Identity’. The conference, despite its narrow, place-specific theme, attracted academics, photographers and writers from different disciplines and parts of the world. After the success of this first conference, it was decided that the conference would be organized every two years with a different theme and focus. The International Association of Photography and Theory  (IAPT) soon followed in 2012 and provided the umbrella organization under which the biannual ICPT conferences take place.
